SAMSUNG!: My S4 Zoom Debut

I've had an S3 for a while (since my last smartphone was artfully relieved of my possession from my purse at the horse races). When I started this blog in 2010 I would lag around my basic phone and my various cameras, wait to go home to upload, fiddling around with cables, my entire social media network consisting of my 250 Facebook friends... Seems so caveman status now, and it was just 3ish years ago.

Anyway, fast-forward to today and I am in proud possession of the S4 Zoom. According to the device specs it's neither a phone exclusively nor a camera exclusively, but a happy marriage of both. It has Samsung Galaxy S4 capability along with a camera that has an actual zoom lens (10x optical zoom). A manual one. Very chic.

Android has been changing my life for a minute, but this is a new level of interactivity. I'm totes excited.

SA Designer David Tlale for Kinshasa Fashion Week

South African Designer David Tlale closing his show at Kinshasa Fashion Week

South African designer David Tlale showcased at the inaugural Kinshasa Fashion Week in the Democratic Republic of Congo over the past weekend.
David Tlale’s Decadence collection, which he showcased at Joburg Fashion Week in March, was extended to feature some ready-to-wear pieces at the first ever Kinshasa Fashion Week. It was rich in shimmering gold and brown, evident on both menswear and womenswear.
Elegant looks dominated in peplum tops, long fitted dresses and flared skirts. And serving both casual and sophisticated looks, was the black slim-fit trouser.
The inclusion of white pieces was beautiful, especially the cropped long-sleeved top paired with the flared skirt (in high waist), which gave a peek of the midriff in a sophisticated manner.
His menswear expansion has proved to be a great one, and comprised sheer tunics and suits, with double-breasted jackets and slim-fit trousers.

I Won!

Third place winner Eddie Kirindo, myself, DEACONS CEO Muchiri Wahome, & second place winner Wambui Thimba.

Me and six other dedicated Stylists have been gearing up for this Zara launch for a long time. Retail giant DEACONS gave us a great deal of incentive with this contest that pitted a handful of prominent Stylists against each other. Read about the DEACONS Fashion Show and Stylist competition here and here.

Thank-you to the DEACONS Kenya team and their new Zara line. Buy, buy, and buy some more!

Will put up images of the Stylists' collections as soon as I can.

Pledge Allegiance to the Struggle

Mid rings (the type that fit above the knuckles) are really de rigeur. I love how fashion can be all about the details and less about the macro view. These I had designed by jeweller Nyokabi Kiarie of Nyokabi. Anyone who knows me understands my enduring love affair with hand-crafted brass baubles.

Contact Nyokabi at Nyokabisheilla@gmail.com.
