So in the quest to find the perfect combination of facial products and makeup that suits ME, I've stumbled upon something called mineral makeup. Made from pure compressed minerals, mineral makeup is organic, more natural than conventional cosmetics. It's purported to have health benefits, nurturing skin rather than stressing it with oils, waxes, and chemicals.
"What makes mineral makeup different from traditional makeup isn't the ingredients it contains but what's left out.
For many leading brands, the list of left ingredients includes preservatives, parabens, mineral oil, chemical dyes, and fragrance. Many dermatologists recommend mineral makeup based on the fact that these left out ingredients are possible skin irritants."

At 31, I'm more and more noticing on my face the effects of ageing, exposure to the sun, and years of applying over-the-counter creams, and using copious amounts of conventional makeup. It's nothing short of devastating, not merely from the perspective of vanity, but from that of a girl who just wants great skin again. Although I'm a mix-and-match kind of girl who will likely never give up the conventional makeup brands I've always used, there's definitely room in my life for a little back to the basics.
And that's where Lily Potgieter comes in. She's a locally-based American aesthetician. She's giving me a chemical peel next week (gasp!), but in the meantime we thought we'd chat about cosmetics, makeup, and the Glo-minerals line of products that she's made available in Kenya.
