Karen Walker Eyewear Campaign Shot in Kenya

New Zealand eyewear designer Karen Walker has shot her Spring 2014 ad campaign starring the craftspeople involved in the making of the product. Partnering with the United Nations ITC Ethical Fashion Initiative, these subjects are also the producers of the screen-printed pouches that are included with every pair of sunglasses sold. It's a genius idea that's not only visually interesting, but also creates social value and shines a light on community-based artisans in Kenya.

J'adore BALMAIN: Pre-Fall Collection Safari-Inspired

Head designer at La Maison de Couture BALMAIN Paris Olivier Rousteing brings us a pre-fall 2014 collection fit for the African plains. I have adored BALMAIN for years since they launched the epaulettes (shoulder pads) for the new age. Michael Jackon-esque  BALMAIN jackets (worn by all the cool celebrities) have been all the rage since the label's re-invention of them. An very young Rousteing (who I follow avidly on Instagram) has such a strong sense of what the label is, you can spot their clothes from a mile: edgy, urban, often extremely mini or with a daring decolletage, and always with an 80's undertone.

Here, a sampling of Rousteing's pre-Fall 2014 collection, which draws obvious inspiration from The Motherland:

Can't get enough. Read and see more of the collection at Women's Wear Daily.
