Head designer at La Maison de Couture BALMAIN Paris Olivier Rousteing brings us a pre-fall 2014 collection fit for the African plains. I have adored BALMAIN for years since they launched the epaulettes (shoulder pads) for the new age. Michael Jackon-esque BALMAIN jackets (worn by all the cool celebrities) have been all the rage since the label's re-invention of them. An very young Rousteing (who I follow avidly on Instagram) has such a strong sense of what the label is, you can spot their clothes from a mile: edgy, urban, often extremely mini or with a daring decolletage, and always with an 80's undertone.
Here, a sampling of Rousteing's pre-Fall 2014 collection, which draws obvious inspiration from The Motherland:
Can't get enough. Read and see more of the collection at Women's Wear Daily.
